Del Norte County
Size: 1,008 square miles
Population: 27,950 (as of 2004)
The Yurok and Tolowa tribes were the first residents in Del Norte County. The explorer Jedediah Smith is the one credited in being the first non-native in the region in 1828. Gold Strikes in the area in 1850 led to the settlement of the county in 1857. It’s name, Del Norte, means “the north” which refers to its position in the northwest position of the state.

Population: 7,250
This is the seat of Del Norte County and is bordered by the Pacific Ocean and Crescent City Harbor. The city was named for the Crescent shaped bay. It has been a working port since 1850.
Crescent City has many amenities, which include a public hospital, library, community swimming pool, North Coast Marine Mammal Center and a National Part Visitors Center.
